U.S. firm Scuderi Group has completed testing of a new type of internal combustion engine. The emission of greenhouse gases in the engine design is much lower compared to the standard models: the carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) has been halved and nitrogen oxides (NO x ), 80%. The figures are audited by the Southwest Research Institute (Southwest Research Institute), in the State of Texas, USA. UU.
The engine capacity of 1 liter volume is 135 horsepower at 6,000 revolutions per minute. Designers say their fuel efficiency is 36% more than in Conventional analog. The engine has a separate cycle ('split cycle engine'), ie the four stages of internal combustion-making, compression, combustion and exhaust-are made in two paired cylinders connected by a kind of corridor. One works as an air compressor and operates the intake and compression, and other combustion and exhaust.
The principle is not new, but previous models were a size too big and very low energy efficiency, which made them less profitable for mass production. Scuderi Group's work, however, does not have these disadvantages.
Another innovation is that the engine is equipped pneumatic valves. The mixture of fuel and air enters a cylinder and then moving on to another and burn. When a vehicle starts to brake, pneumatic valves are opened to the outside pushing 100% of the compressed mixture out of the cylinder to a special tank, where is 'stored'. If the vehicle needs a further acceleration, you can use this reserve.
According to the designers, the most important thing is that your engine has standard details, allowing launch to production without delay. Furthermore, it is subject to change: it can increase capacity by increasing the size of the deposit for the compressed mixture.
